I dig dirt
I gather sticks by the bundle
I move the earth
And fashion this debris into some sort of a tunnel
My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel
My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel
I am the worst of my generation
I pulled the lever, now look what I’ve done.
I am the waste of my generation
I was on the level, now look what I’ve become
My best friends
I’m trying to reach the end of your rope
But you’ve frayed the ends
And so I am abandoning all sense of hope, now
But my best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel
(I’m not waiting for you to come to my rescue)
My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel
(I pulled the lever now look what I’ve done)
My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel
(I want rebirth. I want regeneration)
My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel
(I was on the level, now look what I’ve become)
My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel
(I want rebirth. I want regeneration)
My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel
(I pulled the lever now look what I’ve done)
My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel
(I was on the level, now look what I’ve become)
But my best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel
I’m not waiting for you to come to my rescue

Secret
04:42
|
|||
Hey there, where’re you going?
You walked it off.
But we need this conflict resolved
You were a part of it all
You were a part of this all
The setting sun
Those week-end tears shed by everyone
That fall as rain, that fall with a thud
Collected in puddles
Can’t see my reflection at all
You were a part of it all
We need this conflict resolved
This was the start of it all
This was the start of it
I don’t know,
I don’t know how to take this
Impatience.
I don’t know,
I don’t know how to take this
That fragrance
God must have been mistaken
I don’t know how to take this.
God must have been mistaken
For forty days, or forty years
The floods raged
And the earth disappeared
A Rainbow
But where’s it going?
The colours are off
We’ve always had mixed results
We need this conflict resolved
You were a part of it all
The setting sun
The animals can’t see their reflections at all.
You were a part of this all
We need this conflict resolved
This was the start of it all
This was the start of it.
I don’t know,
I don’t know how to take this
Impatience
I don't know
I don’t know how to take this
That fragrance
God must have been mistaken
I don’t know how to take this
God must have been mistaken
Oh, the setting sun
Some eighty years lived by everyone
That fall as rain, or fall with a thud
Collected in puddles
Can’t see my reflection at all.

Lullaby
03:25
|
|||
Fix yourself in your room, candy-mouth
The moon is just a tooth, waiting to fall out
Of the sky inside of your head, purple-red,
Where we sleep entombed in beds, like the dead.
I want the truth.
In silver sounds
From lips dark blue
Breathing out
Hold the candle’s orange flame, it’s a game,
That I can’t remember your name. What’s your name?
But I love you.
In silent clouds
Or when your cocoon
Emits sounds of…
With your perfume
I need no compass
There are so few
Who speak for all of us.
Then in a boat built for two, me and you
Will sail away from the bloom of our youth.

Matthew
02:31
|
|||
Thunder in the distance
Children afraid
While good neighborhood cats strayed
and tried to avoid the passing cars
Trees sway forth
revealing a harsh wind from the north
That static is thick in the air
That’s Matthew
Call this Matthew
This is the calm before the storm
Hard to believe how few things are born
On a night as forlorn as this one
It’s closer now
The doors are shut and only one window is opening
to provide an alcove for anything hoping
That it won’t be as bad as predicted
In the distance dogs bark
thinking that it is fitting
that their only remarks
be not understood
by anything but themselves
I would call this Matthew
Does anything really exist as seen?
Light reflected through water does not quite lean
As uneducated men might
As helpless as a darling may dare
And nothing ever really seems to get smarter here
Get smarter
I would call this Matthew
The only thing stopping, this invisible force,
That yet bides the clouds, ever near
Held back, caught by its nape, fear
must run its course.
Mouth agape. A trifle late,
Still one could say: fate

No such thing as accidents
Just incidents and the ones you invent
Principles we uphold
Roses twirled in fondue gold
Reflecting this colour and that
Put your teeth in nice and straight
Now turn around, kiss the one that you hate
A star is born in the old summer time
These principles, they turn on a dime
But love finds Robert M.
So says legions of fans
Among them Ulysses S. Grant
Reflecting this colour and that
No such thing as incidents
Just accidents and the ones you intend
I could go on singing
But a child is waiting
As we strike up the band
so blends future and past
Roses gold and red
Reflecting this colour and that
Around and around and around we dance
Fall on the ground and crease your dress
Around and around and around we dance
Crawl on the grass and crease your dress
Let me sleep.
Let me sleep.

Newton's Chair

And you just might like it.
(apple a day, apple a day, apple a day)
And you just might need it.
(apple a day, apple a day, apple a day)
So if you lose it,
(apple a day, apple a day, apple a day)
You’d best retrieve it.
(apple a day, apple a day, apple a day)
Not cosmetic.
So you won’t regret it.
So if you leave it,
You’d best retrieve it.
NEWTON’S CHAIR!
[why do I want this anyway?]
And you just might feel it!
So you better well mean it!
It’s the real McCoy.
You’d best believe it.
NEWTON’S CHAIR.
Hey, come away,
start the day
if I’m awake before seven.
Oh, then we’ll go
celebrate like we are
little children.
Hey, congregate,
come of age
sitting safely in
Newton’s Chair.
It’s hard to see
with the sun in my eyes.
It’s hard to believe
we’ve become this narrow.
It’s hard to see where
I have shot my arrow.

Morning Sickness
05:59
|
|||
Oh me in these clothes
Oh me in these clothes (this heart of mine)
Throw your arms around these clothes (and this heart of mine)
We now in repose. Eyes closed.
These are the places I once found to be on my way
As I walked right out the door
Little did I know that I’d soon be on my way
To all the places I’d ignored
Oh me in these clothes (this heart of mine)
Oh you in these clothes (then what is mine?)
Oh me in my clothes (deserve some time)
Oh me in these clothes. Enclosed
These are the places that I once passed all along my way
Something borrowed, something blue
Little did I know that I’d soon be on my way
All roads lead me back to you
Not going to make it in time
The world is flawed by design
The world is too far behind
The world has suffered
and all have suffered
Oh me in these clothes (this heart of mine)
Oh me in these clothes (there was a time when…)
Oh me in repose (this part of mine)
Oh me in these clothes…
All these gracious places that I once
passed all along my way.
Something hollow, something new
Little did I know that I’d soon enjoy my stay
But I would leave it all for you.
Could we not make it in time?
The world is flawed by design
The world is too far behind our love
The world has suffered enough
and all have suffered enough
Hurry, hurry, your train….
Hurry, hurry, the train…

The World Is Flat
05:25
|
|||
Oh, I said "the world is flat!"
And the committee gasped,
And the King, well he rasped
"How do you know?"
"I took the Queen on a chance,
and we had a tap dance off
the edge of it." (That's how)
Then the King had a laugh
Accused me of a madness
An uncommon sadness
To which I was hurled:
"Take a look at this map.
Do you notice the gaps?
Well I say, what's between them?"
That's no man's land
That's where the dragons attack
You oughta know.
That's no man's land, Hey
I hear the dragons are black
And indigo.
What's between them?
Let's keep this just between us
The wind at our backs
We filled up our flasks
And didn't mind all the rats
We were but stargazers
No where is home
Except what can be known
And that's what can be found
We set sail at dawn
We sailed across the pond
And had an uncommon bond
of which all were amazed
Look through the scope
A little mound of hope
And that's what we are!
Just past this no man's land
That's where the dragons attack
You oughta know.
That's no man's land
I hear the dragon are black
And indigo.
Then a big wave, came and crashed down
And it swept us off the course
Just a big wave, with our mast down
And it swept us off the course
Off to shore! Then a big wave!
Came and crashed down!
And it swept us off to shore!
What's between them?
Let's keep this just between us
That's no man's land.
The world is flat.

owenshire Ontario
Owenshire was born when Robert Muhlbock bought a bass guitar in 1992 and began recording dozens of bass and vocal demos
under that name.
Two albums, numerous "live demos," one too-long hiatus and (most importantly) one bass distortion pedal later, Muhlbock continues to release riff-based alt. rock, scattered with lush harmonies and dotted with cryptic and/or disillusioned lyrics.
