I dig dirt I gather sticks by the bundle I move the earth And fashion this debris into some sort of a tunnel My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel I am the worst of my generation I pulled the lever, now look what I’ve done. I am the waste of my generation I was on the level, now look what I’ve become My best friends I’m trying to reach the end of your rope But you’ve frayed the ends And so I am abandoning all sense of hope, now But my best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel (I’m not waiting for you to come to my rescue) My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel (I pulled the lever now look what I’ve done) My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel (I want rebirth. I want regeneration) My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel (I was on the level, now look what I’ve become) My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel (I want rebirth. I want regeneration) My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel (I pulled the lever now look what I’ve done) My best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel (I was on the level, now look what I’ve become) But my best friend in the whole wide world is a shovel I’m not waiting for you to come to my rescue

Matthew 02:31
Thunder in the distance Children afraid While good neighborhood cats strayed and tried to avoid the passing cars Trees sway forth revealing a harsh wind from the north That static is thick in the air That’s Matthew Call this Matthew This is the calm before the storm Hard to believe how few things are born On a night as forlorn as this one It’s closer now The doors are shut and only one window is opening to provide an alcove for anything hoping That it won’t be as bad as predicted In the distance dogs bark thinking that it is fitting that their only remarks be not understood by anything but themselves I would call this Matthew Does anything really exist as seen? Light reflected through water does not quite lean As uneducated men might As helpless as a darling may dare And nothing ever really seems to get smarter here Get smarter I would call this Matthew The only thing stopping, this invisible force, That yet bides the clouds, ever near Held back, caught by its nape, fear must run its course. Mouth agape. A trifle late, Still one could say: fate

I have no theme. In this bouquet of wild flowers And you have no theme Random violence makes me ill. I have no theme Water colouring a migraine I have no theme. This facade is a pigsty, it is. You gather wood, you gather moss You construct a fortress of clay aspirations You gather wood, you gather moss You build a tower of loss without creation You lay the foundation for a highway. I have no theme The tunnel road is misnamed I have no theme The graffiti designated And you have no theme You lazy altruistic And you have no theme You pitcher plant, you cannibalistic Carve two letters, one makes sense it’s all for your repentance Pack this mud before your wall Well thought out, and lacking in crassness Insulate the wires for a highway Insulate the wires for a landmark We build a super information powered highway We build a super information powered landmark

Running down the staircase A pocketbook in her hand She had terrible migraines She wasn’t used to making plans And then she jumped off the overpass A target that nobody could ever miss She jumped off the overpass So she really wouldn’t remember this. Running down the staircase A comic book in her hand She tried to stop the crime wave But she couldn’t meet the mayor’s demands So she jumped off the over pass A target that nobody could ever miss She jumped off the overpass So she really wouldn’t remember this. Jumped off the overpass And didn’t have the time to return his kiss Jumped off the overpass And boy did that really make a mess…. Running down the staircase A locket held her hand She played terrible mind-games With her imaginary friends Who said to jump off the overpass A target that nobody could ever miss She jumped off the overpass So she really wouldn’t remember this. Jumped off the overpass And boy did that really make a mess. Jumped off the overpass And didn’t have the time to return his kiss Goddamn the overpass Goddamn this mess we’re in Goddamn the futures past Goddamn this whole fucking world And she never returned here.

I left you a message and told you to call You never got back to me Must you take everything so literal? It’s just an analogy Lisa got six, Erin got seven, Rob has got 17 This world is sick This world is pleasant And should be blown to smithereens Worms are in the garden Learning to crawl It’s just an analogy Must you take everything so literal? We’re losing our sanity Dan has got six, Randy’s got seven Greg has got 17 This world is sweet This world’s effervescent This world’s beta-carotene All I know is things have got to change So I can sleep at night I don’t know but I’ve got to say Things should be alright I was in the garden learning to crawl It’s just a formality. You were in the kitchen miserable Let’s scatter these fallacies Chris has got six, Amber’s got seven Rob has got 17. This world is sick This world is pleasant This world is a mystery. All I know things have got to change So I can sleep at night I don’t know but I’ve got to say Things should be alright All I know, this sideshow’s getting away It’s getting away

He was born on a Sunday morning This was the dawn of the caveman Planets aligned and the fire warming The birth of civilization Sharpened a rock and made a weapon Maybe this is where his troubles started Pulling her hair during mating The birth of needless aggression Who could predict Her life would be over tonight In due time How could they know? They were reportedly shy And too blind Door to door he goes calmly walking He got a job as a salesman Making the effort explaining “I think they make them in England” Back in his car on the highway envy He wants his towels all monogramed Somewhat selfish and greedy. He treats his wife like a houseplant Who could predict His life would be over tonight In due time The neighbours would say He was reportedly shy They’re too kind I won’t accept anymore I don’t expect you to beg I don’t expect you to lay your head down On the foot of the bed. I don’t expect you to yell And don’t expect me to shout I understand how the words can get caught on the roof of your mouth The neighbours would say He was reportedly shy They’re too blind The papers would say She was accordingly kind In due time

I’m afraid of the dark I’m afraid of the day Is it safe where you are? And are you going to stay? I’m a pillar of salt And you are pieces of clay I am making you whole So you’ll never be patronized So you’ll never be patronized Here’s to making your mark Here’s to eating your cake Life’s just a walk in the park so let’s go and join the parade we’ll play a game of billiards or have a round of charades Here’s to breaking your heart Now let’s go and have a nice day. This is my arm Helping to raise You from the swarm Of countless impurities I’m operating in calm, mind you We’re at the bottom, they say Swimming among the billions Of translucent sureties So you’ll never be patronized Here’s to being in love (I’m afraid of the dark) Or here’s to saving money (I’m afraid of the day) Neither falls from above (Is it safe where you are?) And nobody gives them away (are you going to stay?) Let’s have a walk in the park Let's go and join a parade (These are my arms seeking embrace) I am a pillar of salt So here I’ll stay. (Yours can only discard and will not reach)

about

owenshire Ontario

Owenshire was born when Robert Muhlbock bought a bass guitar in 1992 and began recording dozens of bass and vocal demos under that name.

Two albums, numerous "live demos," one too-long hiatus and (most importantly) one bass distortion pedal later, Muhlbock continues to release riff-based alt. rock, scattered with lush harmonies and dotted with cryptic and/or disillusioned lyrics.
